A FIRST QUARTER 18TH CENTURY AMERICAN STRETCHER BASE SPLAYED LEG TAVERN TABLE IN MAPLE, CHESTNUT AND PINE, CONNECTICUT, CIRCA 1730-1740 IN NICE CONDITION WITH ITS ORIGINAL MOLDED OVAL TOP AND DESIRABLE DIMINUTIVE SMALL SIZE.

A WILLIAM AND MARY PERIOD AMERICAN TAVERN TABLE IN A VERY NICE SIZE. THE TURNED BASE IS IN AMERICAN MAPLE WITH MOLDED PINE APRONS AS WELL AS MOLDED MAPLE BOTTOM STRETCHERS. THE CHESTNUT MOLDED OVAL TWO BOARD TOP IS ORIGINAL.
GREAT DOUBLE SPAYED LEG TABLE. BOLD TURNINGS AND A WONDERFUL EARLY FORM.
THIS GREAT LITTLE TAVERN TABLE IS A RARE SURVIVOR. The bottom stretchers are pegged and completely intact. It has a very rare original under cleat to secure the top.
The two board chestnut top has great wear and a wonderful early molded edge which is still intact.
It has very early double baluster turned legs.
This great table was cleaned down in the late 19th century but the paint history is still present.
The entire piece was painted a wonderful burnt sienna - yellow grained paint in the early 19th century over an earlier whitewashed surface.

The top was taken off and re-attached and there is a small patch put in, (probably from a knot that loosened up). This was done probably in the early 19th century. The four corner rose head nails appear original and there are a couple of added 19th century and later nails added.
Also when the piece was refinished, Circa 1880-1900, they put some nails in from the top of the aprons into the top to help secure it.

ALL of the wood pins in the aprons and stretchers are original. The feet have worn down as shown. The under cleat is original.
THERE ARE TRACES OF THE OLD 19TH CENTURY GRAIN PAINT THROUGHOUT.
For you who collect early furniture these repairs and restorations are considered extremely minor for a FIRST PERIOD WILLIAM AND MARY TAVERN TABLE.
24 1/2" tall, the two board chestnut top is 31" wide and 24" deep.
The table splays as follows:
sides splay from 21" to 15" and the ends from 18" to 12"
