This is a late Taisho Era (c. 1926) haribako (sewing box) with a unique arrangement of four drawers and an additional fifth area located in the flip top lidded section. The top area is divided into two sections with an extra lid and insert (see picture 9). This tansu chest was used to store valuables as well as equipment for the person of the house to do repairs on Kimono and bedding as well as money and valuables.

All drawers run smoothly and the lidded top opens and closes with ease. Please enjoy viewing the enlarged photos of this chest before bidding. This chest measures 11 1/2" wide by 9" high by 7" deep (29 x 23 x 18 cm). Very solidly built, a great piece of Japanese history
