superb ART DECO carved wood gilded SUNBURST MIRROR A good size, m easuring 24" wide and 16" tall ; the mirrored glass itself ...
It originally housed a clock and has been converted to a mirror, and dates from the 1930s Art Deco period; probably French, as the original clock had a French movement. The bonded-in replacement flat mirrored glass is new.
The whole surround and mirror housing is made from wood and each sunburst section has been individually carved. It displays superbly and is far removed from the later composition type mirrors, giving a very dramatic and intense Sunburst effect. Has excellent toned gilding as well ~ not too bright or modern looking, so that it looks really sympathetic in a Period setting.
The condition is all excellent and original for it's age. There is no damage to any of the wooden rays and difficult to spot any imperfections, but this is NOT a new repro, so obviously not as perfect as new ~ but this is part of the charm and essence of owning an original. Please refer to the detailed photographs before bidding.
These original carved wood framed Sunburst mirrors are now very difficult to find, and this is a really stunning example that when hung makes a truly beautiful accompaniment to any room.
