18TH CENTURY NORWICH, CONNECTICUT CHERRY CANDLE STAND, CIRCA 1770-1785 WITH THE BEST CYMA CUT CORNER SHAPED TOP AND THE ABSOLUTE BEST SHAPED CABRIOLE LEGS, ALL IN A NICE OLD CHERRY FINISH AND NICE OLD PATINA.
This is a classic NORWICH, CONNECTICUT candle stand from the Late 18th century. The single board cyma cut corner one board cherry top has a nice bevel cut edge. It has an elongated baluster shaft with a deep elaborate bottom urn turning. Classic NORWICH SHAPED HAND CARVED cabriole legs are dovetailed into the shaft and end in delicate Queen Anne style feet which retain their original pads. The entire stand is made of native Connecticut cherry.
The form is a CLASSIC "NORWICH, CT" in Design. The craftsmanship of this stand is equal to the best known examples. The shaping of the legs and feet are identical to the documented Examples that are in Museums. Also, the turning of the bottom part of the shaft as well as the upper shaft turnings are again seen on documented examples.
